A Christ-Centered Education in Northern New Jersey

At Eastern Christian School, we believe that a Christ-centered curriculum is key to preparing students for the challenges of the real world. We are blessed to serve families of Northern New Jersey and beyond that are seeking a private Christian school with a robust academic program rooted in a Biblical worldview. Our goal is to graduate students who are Christian leaders, equipped to influence their communities and make a transformative impact for Jesus Christ in every field of work and life.

Our entire preschool-grade 12 program is designed to encourage students of Christian families to be graduates that are people of Christian vision and influence.

Below, you’ll find a brief overview of what that looks like here.

Biblical Curriculum:
A Foundation for Christian Education

At EC, the Bible is at the core of everything we teach. Our Christian education curriculum is designed to integrate Biblical principles and truths into every subject, helping students view the world through the lens of scripture. Each student participates in Bible classes as part of their academic studies, but the learning goes far beyond the classroom.

As a school with a strong Reformed Christian foundation, we equip students to engage the world with a Christian worldview for the glory of God’s Kingdom. Our comprehensive Bible program is tailored to each academic level.

Preschool

Children begin to understand they are God’s creation and develop curiosity about His world. They learn to demonstrate Jesus’ love and kindness through their actions and the importance of showing reverence during prayer. Through reading bible stories, learning memory verses, singing songs of praise and more, these are foundational years as students begin to understand who God is.

Elementary School

The elementary Bible curriculum introduces students to foundational Christian teachings and biblical stories, progressing in depth as they advance through the grades. Kindergarteners learn about God’s creation, Jesus as God’s Son, and the Bible as God’s Word, focusing on Old Testament heroes and Jesus’ miracles. Grades 1-3 build on these foundations with stories from Creation to the first kings of Israel, parables, and miracles, emphasizing God’s love and forgiveness. By Grades 4-5, students study Philippians, the Pentateuch, Old Testament poetry, and covenants, exploring Jesus’ humanity and divinity through his life, miracles, and teachings.

Middle School

The middle school Bible curriculum deepens students’ understanding of the overarching biblical narrative, focusing on key events, themes, and biblical study skills. Students explore the historical and cultural context of the Bible, study its major genres, and develop skills in reading, interpreting, and reflecting on scripture. Emphasis is placed on understanding God’s work through His people, the role of the Holy Spirit, and the spread of the gospel.

High School

The Bible curriculum guides students in exploring key theological ideas through inductive reasoning and sound Reformed interpretation of Scripture, fostering a biblical worldview. Courses cover the biblical narrative, covenants, and the Kingdom of God, emphasizing themes like Creation, Redemption, and practical application of faith in modern life. Students also engage with apologetics, comparing worldviews to Christianity, and study worship, exploring the character of God and principles of spiritual leadership in a modern context.

Service Learning: Putting our Faith into Action

Faith comes alive when it’s put into action. At Eastern Christian School, students from preschool through high school engage in service learning opportunities that develop compassion, leadership, and a heart for others.

  • Preschool: Fundraising activities like a trike-a-thon to support St. Jude’s Childhood Cancer Research.
  • Elementary School: Service projects to raise funds and awareness for local and global ministries.
  • Middle School: The Make-a-Difference (MAD) program addresses issues such as poverty and disability through community service.
  • High School: Students participate in fundraising, local outreach, and international missions through partner organizations.

Our programs are designed to ensure that each student has opportunities to serve others, reflect God’s love, and act as the “hands and feet of Jesus” in their communities and beyond.

Spiritual Themes

At Eastern Christian School, we select an annual spiritual theme as a guiding focus to unite our community in exploring God’s Word together. Rooted in scripture, this theme provides a shared framework for spiritual growth and learning across all grade levels—from preschool through high school.

Each year, students engage with a Biblical concept through age-appropriate activities, including music, visual art, and scripture-based reflection. By focusing on a key aspect of God’s word for an entire year, our school community is able to deepen their faith and understanding of multi-faceted Biblical principles in meaningful and engaging ways.

This intentional approach to Christian education reflects our commitment to providing a Christ-centered learning environment at every age and stage, from preschool through high school.

Worship: United in Praise

Chapel services are a weekly highlight at Eastern Christian School. Students and teachers join together for this time of worship and Biblical teaching. During chapel, guest speakers—including local pastors, youth ministers, and EC faculty—share Biblical messages that encourage spiritual growth.

At all campuses, student leadership opportunities abound. From opportunities like grade-led elementary chapels, to dance team presentations in middle school chapels, to full chapel planning with student bands and audio/visual technical support at the high school we love seeing our students putting God-given talents to use and exercising the leadership skills that we pray they continue to grow in throughout their lifetime.

Parents and family friends are always welcome to join us for these times of worship, as we glorify our God and grow together as a community.

EC has been a part of some of the most formative years of my life not only as a student but as a Christian. I am most thankful to Eastern Christian for their teachers, who encourage spiritual leadership and are concerned about the well-being and academic understanding of their students, the worship and prayer opportunities that allow me to speak and lead the school spiritually, and the close-knit community, where I feel that I am engaging with generations of believers.

How would you describe your overall experience at Eastern Christian?

My overall experience at Eastern Christian has been enlightening and life-changing.

How did the EC community impact your life?

My bible teacher will remain as one of my favorite teachers who had an extraordinary impact on my life. My brother, Aidan, class of 2021, would tell me the wonderful things about his Bible teacher. When I came to Eastern Christian and was eager to be involved in the spiritual community at the school through worship and prayer, this teacher acknowledged me as a fellow believer in Christ and would encourage me in my spiritual walk with Christ. Through the ups and downs of high school, I had an opportunity to meet with God, explore my calling as a leader, and develop my passion for Christ.

In what ways have you grown in your faith as a result of your experience at Eastern Christian School?

During my freshman year, I accepted Jesus as my Lord and Savior through the encouragement of my friend. From then on, Christ changed my world. Since EC was beginning to open up after the COVID-19 Pandemic, it allowed me to search for Christ and develop a strong connection to him in a more contemplative setting. During my sophomore year, however, I felt called to lead the worship team in lieu of what Christ had done in my life. With the encouragement of the Bible department and especially my Bible teacher, I grew in my knowledge of leading spiritually, my own understanding of Christ in relation to worship, how to listen intentionally to the Holy Spirit, and my spiritual temperament. The opportunity to have Project FOCUS, a spiritual formation club within the school, and worship SOAR developed my understanding and passion for Christ in my Junior year. Now, in my senior year, I have been able to take the valuable spiritual formation and knowledge that EC has provided me with into my future college and career and to provide support for the underclassmen.

What’s an opportunity at EC that fueled a passion to learn and grow in?

Every class in my Eastern Christian career has been fascinating to me. The teachers at the school maintain a passion and deep understanding of their subjects which provide students with a plethora of interesting and valuable information. They attempt to bring their subjects to the student. In other words, the teachers at Eastern Christian make the information of their subjects relevant and engaging for the class. By knowing your teachers personally, it allows for a stronger connection between students and their educators.

What are EC’s top strengths as a school?

EC’s top strengths include their willingness to pursue excellence in education, their smaller school size, their openness for spiritual gifts and education, their unapologetic faith, their dedication to their students, and the personalized experience between teachers and students.

How do you feel that EC prepared you for graduation, college/career and life? What legacy do you hope you left at EC?

EC has prepared me for graduation/career in their Christ-centered academics, their encouragement, and close connections with teachers who provide support and knowledge for their students.

How did EC make you a better person? What legacy do you hope you left at EC?

Eastern Christian has not only taught me to be responsible for my work ethic, but they have also allowed me to grow in my leadership and my Christian faith.

What would you say to a prospective student considering joining Eastern Christian School?

Be greatly encouraged! I was so grateful for the opportunities that Eastern Christian provided me to not only work and learn under well-educated teachers, but the practicing of the Christian faith in a school environment with wonderful and supportive teachers.

What else would you like to share about your EC experience?

I am a 4th generation EC student. I am so grateful for the generational, academic, and spiritual impact the school has had on my family.

Intentional Discipleship & Mentoring

The entire faculty and staff at EC are committed Christians, fostering an environment where faith is not just a subject but a way of life. This shared commitment ensures that biblical truths are integrated into every aspect of education, from academics to extracurricular activities. Teachers and staff serve as intentional role models, mentoring students in their spiritual journeys and demonstrating Christ-like character in their daily interactions. This creates a unique opportunity for authentic Christian discipleship, as students see their faith lived out in real and relatable ways. The shared values and beliefs among the faculty and staff provide a consistent framework for spiritual guidance, helping students navigate challenges with a biblical perspective. Additionally, the community’s shared faith fosters a sense of belonging and purpose, encouraging students to grow in their relationship with God. Ultimately, this Christ-centered approach equips students to lead lives of faithful service, empowered by a deep and personal understanding of their faith.
